Uruz as a Birth Rune

Uruz people are full of life. They have stamina, recover quickly and take on what others find impossible. They need to feel their body and their strength, which is why many love sport, nature and physical work.

Uruz is strength in raw form, not yet tamed. The task this rune sets is to learn to direct that power: not to waste it fighting for the sake of fighting, but to put it into what truly matters.

• Endurance. You carry loads that break others.
• Health and energy. You bounce back quickly from hardship and illness.
• Courage. You aren't afraid to start from zero or to take on something heavy.
• Wholeness. You are what you are, without masks or half-tones.

The weak spot of Uruz is brute force. The person gets used to pushing through and doesn't notice when they are pressing on others. Stubbornness makes it hard to admit a path was wrong.

The second trap is neglecting yourself: it seems there is strength enough for everything, so the body gets loaded without rest. What the rune teaches is that strength needs care, like any living thing.

In a couple you are a passionate, direct and dependable partner. You know how to protect and support, and your energy recharges those close to you.

Remember gentleness. Not everyone feels the world as strongly as you do, and sometimes your partner needs tenderness rather than support.

People with this rune do well in work that calls for strength and stamina: sport and coaching, construction, farming, medicine and rehabilitation, rescue services, the military, work outdoors. You want work with tangible results.

You do well wherever a long, heavy load has to be carried without breaking. Your path to success runs through persistence.

Uruz's half-month falls in midsummer, the hottest time of the year. Nature is at full strength; everything grows and toughens. Uruz is the second rune of Freyr's aett.

Before Uruz comes Fehu: wealth has appeared, and now it needs strength to endure. After it comes Thurisaz, the rune of the thorn and protection: the strength you have gained must be directed and defended.
