Laguz as a Birth Rune
Water, intuition, flow, emotions, cleansing
Neighbouring Runes of the Year
Laguz is the birth rune of everyone born between April 30 and May 14. Its neighbours in the year are Mannaz, the rune of humankind, which rules just before it, and Ingwaz, the rune of fertility, which follows.
The name Laguz means "water" or "lake". The rune looks like a wave or a branch bending over water. Water flows, finds its way through any obstacle, reflects and holds depth. It is the rune of feeling, intuition and the flow of life. If Laguz is your birth rune, your gift is fine intuition and the ability to go with the flow of life.
Laguz as a Birth Rune
Laguz people live by feeling. They sense others' moods keenly and have strong intuition and a rich imagination. They often have vivid dreams, and their hunches come true.
Laguz's water doesn't stand still: it flows and goes around obstacles rather than breaking them. The task this rune sets is to trust the flow of life and not drown in your own feelings.
Strengths
- Intuition. You sense what the eye can't see.
- Empathy. You feel deeply with others and understand their emotions.
- Flexibility. Like water, you find your way around obstacles.
- Imagination. Your inner world is rich in images and ideas.
The Shadow Side
The weak spot of Laguz is emotional waves. The person is so subject to feeling that their mood shifts like the weather, and it knocks them off course.
The second trap is illusion: imagination paints what isn't there, and fears and dreams mix with reality. The rune's lesson is to test your intuition and keep your clarity.
In Love and Relationships
In a couple you are a sensitive, tender and romantic partner. You guess what someone you love wants and create an atmosphere of warmth and depth.
Try not to dissolve into your partner's feelings. Keep your boundaries, or other people's waves will rock your boat.
Work and Calling
People with this rune do well in work that calls for sensitivity and imagination: art, music, literature, psychology and psychotherapy, medicine, work with water and the sea, healing, working with children.
You flourish where you can follow your intuition and create. Good fortune comes through flexibility and a feel for the moment.
Laguz in the Runic Year
Laguz's half-month falls at the turn of April and May. Rivers run high after the snowmelt, rain waters the earth, and everything fills with life. Laguz is the fifth rune of Tyr's aett.
Before Laguz comes Mannaz: understanding yourself leads into the depth of feeling. After it comes Ingwaz, the rune of the seed: the well-watered earth is ready to bear fruit.
