Raidho as a Birth Rune

Raidho people don't like to stand still. They are drawn to the road: to travel, moves, new projects. They need to feel that life is heading in the right direction.

Yet Raidho isn't just motion; it is motion on the right course. These people plan well and sense the rhythm and order of things. Raidho's lesson is to choose your path with your heart and not to mistake running for a road.

• A sense of direction. You know where you are going and rarely lose your course.
• Ready to go. Change and travel don't scare you; they inspire you.
• Organisation. You can plan a route and pace your strength.
• Rhythm. You sense when to act and when to wait.

Raidho's shadow is restlessness. The person is always on the move and can't stop, because stillness makes them anxious. The road turns into running away from yourself.

Another pitfall is a rigid route: you hold to your plan so tightly that you miss better roads. What the rune teaches is that a path is alive and sometimes calls for a turn.

In a relationship you are looking for a fellow traveller, not a passenger. You want a partner you can head the same way with, travel with and grow with. A relationship is a journey for you too.

Take care not to drive away from difficulties. If things are hard in the couple, it is better to go through it together than to change the route.

Raidho suits work tied to movement and organisation: logistics and transport, tourism, travel, journalism, trade, project management, jobs with trips and business travel.

You do well wherever something has to be delivered, carried through or organised along a route. Success comes when your work gives a feeling of moving forward.

Raidho's period falls at the end of August and the start of September. The harvest is in, and in the old days this was the season for journeys to fairs and to visit kin. Summer turns toward autumn. Raidho is the fifth rune of Freyr's aett.

Before Raidho comes Ansuz: the thought has been found and spoken, and now you can travel by it. After it comes Kenaz, the rune of the torch: the road goes on into darkening days, and light is needed.
