Playing Card Birth Card Calculator

Find your playing card by date of birth: in cardology every day of the year has its card. The Cards of Destiny formula, with the meaning and birthdays of each card.

A birth card in cardology is the playing card that belongs to your birthday. The deck has 52 cards and the year has 52 weeks, and this old system links every day with one of the cards. Your birth card describes character: a person's main gifts and their way of loving, working and solving problems.

To find your card you only need the day and month of your birth. The year doesn't matter: everyone born on the same day shares one birth card.

How the Birth Card Is Calculated

The system was described by the American mystic Olney Richmond in "The Mystic Test Book" in 1893, and in the late 20th century Robert Lee Camp's book "Cards of Destiny" made it popular. At its heart is a simple formula:

solar value = 55 − (month × 2 + day)

The result is a number from 0 to 52. The cards run by suit: 1 to 13 are the Hearts from Ace to King, 14 to 26 the Clubs, 27 to 39 the Diamonds and 40 to 52 the Spades. For example, for May 8, 1989:

  • 55 − (5 × 2 + 8) = 37
  • 37 is the eleventh card of Diamonds, the Jack of Diamonds

The number 0 comes up only on December 31. That is the Joker, a card outside every suit.

Why a Card May Have No Page

On this site we read with a 36-card deck, from Six to Ace. Cardology uses the full deck, so for about a third of birthdays the birth card is a Two, Three, Four or Five. The calculator still shows your card and a short meaning; it just has no page of its own yet.

How to Read Your Birth Card

The suit sets your life's main theme. Hearts speak of love and relationships, Clubs of the mind and knowledge, Diamonds of values and money, Spades of work, health and wisdom. The card's rank shows how that theme plays out: Aces seek, Tens succeed, the court cards rule their suit.

Meanings in cardology differ from fortune-telling ones. In a reading the Queen of Spades is a rival; in cardology she is the card of self-mastery and the highest skill. So read your birth card's description, not its meaning in a spread.

FAQ

No. The formula uses only the month and day. Everyone born on May 8 has the same birth card, the Jack of Diamonds.

That is how Richmond's system works: the number is chosen so that January 1 gets the last card of the deck, the King of Spades, and December 30 the first, the Ace of Hearts. The year runs through the deck from end to beginning.

The Joker. It is the only day on which the formula gives 0. The Joker stands outside the suits and can play any role, so it is seen as the card of a free, artistic spirit.

No. A reading answers a question about a situation, while a birth card describes a person. The cards' meanings differ between the two systems, so a fortune-telling meaning doesn't fit a birth card.
